C’est cool ça, en révanche c’est vrai que le bonheur n’arrive jamais à 100%…. c’est vraiment dommage que le chaînes italiennes ne soient pas disponible en France… d’autant plus qu’il y a énormement d’italiens et qu’il n’y a qu’une petite minorité équipée de satellite pour pouvoir récévoir les chaines italiennes… et Zattoo c’était un peu l’espoir pour beaucoup de monde, moi compris. Peut-on encore croire que dans un futur proche toutes les chaines italiennes seront enfin disponibles?

désolé, mais comparé à peerTV, l’offre est très réduite (on accès à plus de 100 chaînes sur peerTV) et en plus, malgré ma cnx haut débit 2M, l’image se fige régulièrement, le son aussi (avec le petit message “unsufficient bandwith”. Une blague. 3 secondes avant je téléchargeait les mises à jour Debian à 2 Mbits/s. C’est inregardable (j’ai un ordi en triple boot : Mac OS-X, GNU/LInux Blag 600001, GNU/linux Debian lenny. J’ai install zatto sur les 3 partitions : mêmes symptômes. Pire, sous Blag , pas de son, mais là le flux image semble stable). J’oubliais : zatto me dit au lancement que Adobe flash player n’est pas installé (c’est faux, sur mes 3 partitions, ce plugin est bien là).
Enfin, comme c’est un soft gratuit, on ne peut pas se permettre de critiquer. Tant mieux si certains y trouvent leur bonheur. C’est déjà pas mal d’avoir choisi la techno P2PTV.

Je connais Zattoo déjà d’Allemagne. C’est vraiment bien. Mais ici en France il ne marche pas. Chaque fois que je veux me connecter à une chaine, Zattoo me dit que j’aurais changé le pays et que je doit entrer à nouveau mon login et mot de passe. Mais après Zattoo ne peut encore pas se connecter à une chaine. Est-ce qu’il y a quelqu’un qui pourrait m’aider ?

@all of you asking about more/other channels: the current lineup is definitely not the final one. We (that is Olivier really, country manager for France) will continue to work on getting you more channels – popular channels for the broad public as well as more special and foreign ones. What you can personally do to speed this up is to use Zattoo and to tell your friends about it. Because the more people watch TV on Zattoo, the easier it is to convince broadcasters that it’s a cool thing to have their channel on our platform.

Super !!! depuis le temps que l’on attendait Zattoo en France ! mais bon je trouve les chaines disponibles pas tres … attractive par rapport a d autres soft… mais c’ets un bon début et je sais que Zattoo se met tres régulierement a jour au niveau des chaines… Mais stop les chaines d’informations!!! et plus des généralistes… et surtout la TSR ( je sais je reve…).

Zattoo c’est super et la qualité est super par rapport aux autres systèmes de diffusion par internet sauf les offres payantes ou celles des FAI qui sont supérieurs 😉 Mais bon pour du gratuit c’est pas mal ! 😉
Moi je serai pour une diffusion des chaines de la TNT ainsi que de certaines chaines du satellite et aussi la possibilité de recevoir les chaines étrangères.

I have a question for the Zattoo team.
Why the Zattoo for Suisse has also italian Rai (RAI1, RAI2, RAI3) and Mediaset (RETE4, Canale5, Italia1) channels, as they can be received by Hotbird (and so they are free for the whole europe), but the french version has not the same free italian channels??

es scheint schon nicht so einfach zu sein, es allen in jedem Land recht zu machen. Warum ist es aber so schwierig?
Wenn ich z.B. in Deutschland einen internetfähigen PC betreibe, muss ich Rundfunkgebühren bezahlen, auch wenn ich kein TV-Gerät besitze. Der internetfähige PC liefert mir aber keineswegs alle öffentlich rechtlichen Programme, für die die GEZ diese Gebühr eintreibt. Genau genommen kann ich kein einziges davon empfangen, mal abgesehen von ein paar abgelegten Konserven in den sog. Mediatheken. Wenn nun z.B. Zattoo über die Analyse der IP-Adresse garantieren kann, dass ein entsprechender Sender, z.B. das ZDF, dann nur nach Deutschland und eben nicht nach Afghanistan oder Namibia übertragen wird, wo liegt da das Problem? Ich zahle Gebühren und sehe dafür (mit verminderter Qualität) über das Internet fern. Wer hat Nachteile, doch wohl kaum das ZDF, dessen Einschaltquote sich doch wohl erhöht und nicht vermindert!
Vielleicht kann jemand die Zusammenhänge erklären?

@vince the pooh: (had to check with my “content” colleague first). The reason for this is that rights to retransmit are not equal to rights to receive. Yes, you can receive these channels by Hotbird, but it is forbidden for us as a company to retransmit them if we don’t have the rights for a specific country.

Wie sieht das so aus, wenn man mit den Sendern verhandelt, ob man sie nun streamen darf oder nicht. Dauert ja z.B. in Deutschland schon viele Monate lang mit ARD und ZDF. In Österreich tut sich offenbhar garnichts. Worauf wird eigentlich gewartet? Was soll sich wann tun? Die Gesamtsituatio war doch wohl vor 12 Monaten nicht anders als heute und wird auch nächstes Jahr um dieselbe Zeit die gleiche sein?!

Suisse émigré en France, je connais Zattoo depuis la Romandie. Avec pleins de chaines. Et voilà que ça marche en France, super. Alors je sais que la TSR pour des questions de droits ne peut pas être retransmise en France (domage, car en terme de qualité, elle supplante toutes ses concurrentes françaises), par contre, je sais que TVM3 était proposée pendant un moment sur internet. Pensez-vous qu’il serait possible d’obtenir TVM3? Elle diffuse peu de pub, ne devrait pas être restreindre comme la TSR vu qu’elle n’a pas beaucoup d’achat de droits et en plus c’est une petite chaîne qui mériterait qu’on la soutienne… http://www.tvm3.tv Une chaîne musicale de qualité. Et suisse de plus est… Merci

Je suis Anglais, bilingue Anglais – Français, habitant la Belgique. Je viens de charger Zattoo sur ma machine – la qualité est très bonne.
MAIS pourquoi ne peut-on pas capter les chaînes françaises et Euronews ici ? Nous habitons l’Union Européenne, avec liberté d’établissement et de mouvement de personnes, biens, services et capitaux. Donc je ne vois aucune raison valable pour ne pas rendre disponible en Belgique ce que vous diffusez par ailleurs en Suisse, en France, en Allemagne et en Italie – et je suppose aussi au Royaume-Uni. En plus, nous avons de multiples accords avec la Suisse, qui va même rejoindre l’espace Schengen bientôt.
Quand comptez-vous élargir votre offre en Belgique ?

It’s me again 😉
With some channel requests that I think would sum up much of the requests made by others here. So here is what I think might be interesting as part of your French lineup :
– France Ô : I was quite surprised not to find it in the original lineup since you provided us with all of France Télévisions’ channels except this one. This would be great for all DOM/TOM residents, but also to the entire French public. After all, this channel is an insight into a culture that is part of France but that most of the audience don’t really know of. And they also provide Carribean music/dance/arts… lovers with an incredible set of fascinating content! Think about it…
– Gulli : Strangely enough, though I have no kids – oops now you know rofl 😉 – I believe that Zattoo viewers might be interested in having the possibility to show their children their favorite shows, cartoons and stuff. Considering that it is partly owned by France Télévision and shares a lot its content, why not ?
– CNN international : It would be just awesome to give viewers the ability to keep up with the 2008 presidential race in the US on this channel. Plus it offers a lot of diversified news magazines that would please English speakers and expats.
– BBC World : Much the same, news and in-depth magazines, but with the British accent… no kidding, the Beeb is among the most interesting television provider I know of in the English speaking world (and has always been a reference for language learners).
– DW-TV : I am no German speaker, but providing the international channel that sports both English and German spoken content, this channel would please the German community in France. Similarly, have you considered offering the German version of Arte ?
– “TNT” channels : I know that other French TV providers aren’t keen on showing their live stuff over the internet of now, but they might change their views as more and more people get Zattoo-ed.
Well that’s all I can think of for now. So keep up with the excellent job you’ve done, and bring the enjoyment to other Europeans too. 😉

Bien qu’en Union Européenne il y a la liberté de mouvement de personnes, biens, services et capitaux, la liberté de transmission de télévision n’existe malheuresment pas encore. La, il y a encore des droits nationaux que regnent. Et le fait de rejoindre l’espace Schengen ne va pas vous aider non plus 🙂 Il faudra peut-etre un Schengen pour les signaux de télévision…

Merci Andrea, je sais bien, mais la transmission de télévision est un service, donc la liberté de provision existe. Le problème, c’est que la plupart des fournisseurs (chaînes) ne veulent pas fournir leurs services – c’est leur choix, car ils ont des accords avec des fournisseurs ailleurs, au niveau des pays et des régions – nous sommes assez gâtés en Belgique avec le câble et les possibilités qu’offrent les satellites. Mais liées inexorablement à un téléviseur classique ou à un ordinateur avec une carte TV ou Eye-TV par exemple. Donc c’est une question de pression du marché (y compris la plus grande diffusion de publicité) pour les persuader des mérites de la transmission par l’internet.
Sur la branche de forum qui parle de l’ajout de chaînes en Suisse, une très bonne réponse a été donnée – le plus d’utilisateurs que nous sommes, le plus celà aide Zattoo dans leurs négotiations avec les chaînes.

Nicholas: Il n’est pas tout à fait vrai que les chaînes ont vraiment le choix. Ils en ont seulement pour le contenu produit par elles-mêmes, mais pas pour les droits acquise. Si par example une chaîne francaise acquiert les droits de diffuser un film de James Bond en France le vendredi a 20h le soir, ces droits seront typiquement limités pour la France et pour cette heure ci. La chaîne ne peut pas diffuser le même film en Belgique, même si elle voulait. La raison est assez simple: Le studio vendant les droits peut espérer de pouvoir vendre le même filme encore une fois en Belgique, peut-être à un prix plus élevé qu’en France. En tout cas, c’est comme ca aujourd’hui. Ca sera peut-être avec Zattoo que les chaînes auront de plus en plus de pouvoir vis-à-vis des studios, car c’est à elles de négotier les contrats plus flexibles. Mais il ne faut pas y compter pour le prochain avenir, le pouvoir de Hollywood est énorme..

En effet, le pouvoir de Hollywood et des grandes compagnies de l’audio-visuel est énorme – et ils en abusent en essayant de faire croire qu’ils peuvent continuer à traiter les pays de l’UE séparément. N’empèche, avec votre exemple de James Bond, nous recevons les chaînes françaises en Belgique soit par câble, soit par satellite (tous deux moyennant des abonnements) soit directement si l’on habite une zone frontalière – et nous payons une redevance, comme en France ou au Royaume-Uni d’ailleurs. Est-ce que ces mêmes compagnies, ou les nôtres, traitent chaque état des Etats-Unis comme s’il était un pays séparé ? Non sans doute.
N’empêche, il ne s’agit pas seulement d’une Communauté pour les industriels, mais également pour les consommateurs que nous sommes tous, comme a prouvé la Commission en stoppant net la plupart des abus des banques pour les charges des transferts internationaux de sommes en dessous de €50 000. Il existe aussi une politique de l’audio-visuel – voir le site du Commissaire européen pour la Société de l’Information, la très active Mme Viviane Reding, qui a réduit très fortement les fraix de “roaming” international des opérateurs de GSM.

qui mentionne aussi la Directive “Télévision sans frontières”, qui ne va pas assez loin.
Mais je ne voudrais pas susciter un débat quasi juridico-politique, seulement dire que les choses bougent, qu’il reste beaucoup à faire, encourager Mme Reding et ses équipes à poursuivre ses excellents efforts, et encourager Zattoo à continuer avec autant de clients que possible !

Come on Guys. Leopard is released since 2007-11 and still noone at Zattoo got a damn new beta version out of the door which works with the Leopard firewall. That really sucks. It literally takes minutes to fix this issue. Anyone alive at zattoo? Anyone able to have a short look at Apples developer documentation and fix this ugly bug?

Hallo Zattoo,
was muss eigentlich mit den Sendern geklärt werden, damit Ihr deren Programme übertragen könnt? Wenn die vor einem halben Jahr nein gesagt haben, worin besteht dann überhaupt die Hoffnung, dass sie in einer Woche oder in einem Jahr ja sagen? Oder gibt es Gesetze, die eine nationale Verbreitung im Internet verbieten?

Vos blog posts décrivent bien la situation au niveau de l’industrie.
En même temps les choses bougent progressivement et, comme vous l’avez écrit, plus vous serez nombreux, plus Zattoo sera capable de démontrer le besoin de faire avancer la législation…au niveau européen 🙂

Great that it started in France now. But will there be more international channels (esp. German and English) be available soon? The international community here in France would really enjoy this. Even while not the TV guy I miss my German TV.

vielleicht solltest du, bevor du dich beschwerst und vorschläge unterbreitest einfach kurz über die zusammenhänge informieren…
1. die GEZ-Gebühren sind für die öffentlich-rechtlichen Sender (ARD, ZDF, die Dritten, 3Sat usw.), die Privaten bekommen davon nichts, darum ballern die einen ja auch mit so sinnlosen Sendungen voll, um die Quote für die Werbeeinnahmen hochzuhalten
2. ProSiebenAustria als Beispiel wird aber vielleicht etwas dagegen haben, dass man das in Deutschland empfangen kann, schon einmal darüber nachgedacht? ich denke die Gründe liegen auf der Hand

Ich habe mir jetzt für 30 EUR einem USB-DVB-T-Empfänger inkl. kleiner Stabantenne gekauft. Da sehe ich nun auf dem Laptop zwar nicht alle, aber doch wohl entscheidend mehr und vor allem deutlich interessantere Sender, als Zattoo nach vielen Monaten seit dem Start in Deutschland anbietet. Mag sein, dass Zatto nichts dafür kann, dass sich ARD und ZDF sperren, dass ihre Sender in Deutschland über das Internet von einem Drittanbieter ausgestrahlt werden. Ich denke sowieso, dass die zuerst selbst dort senden werden, ehe sie es anderen gestatten. Jedoch scheinen die Schweiz-Amerikaner ein wenig von ihrer noch vor einem Jahr gepflegten Vollmundigkeit verloren zu haben, was deren Präsenz im Internet anbelangt. Um dümmliche Dauerwerbesendungen oder kommentarloses Tischtennis bei ruckelndem Bild anzuschauen, wird man wohl nicht so oft den Zattoo-Player bemühen. Nicht mal ein Nachrichtensender für Deutschland ist am Start! Bleibt zu hoffen, dass es in den nächsten Tagen (!) besser wird, sonst kann man das Projekt wohl vergessen…

Ich werde mir nun wohl auch ein solches Teil anschaffen. Zumindest das in Deutschland verfügbare Zattoo-Angebot ist sehr bescheiden und es scheint sich ja definitiv nichts zu tun. Ich verfolge die Blogs hier schon seit Anfang an und denke, da wird wohl kurzfristig, vielleicht auch überhaupt nichts werden.

@heinzelmann3 und archibalddd: nun nicht mal gleich so negativ, Leute! Immerhin haben wir schon über 220’000 registrierte Benutzer in Deutschland. Und täglich stossen einige Hundert mehr dazu. Und zum Senderangebot: da hat sich doch Einiges getan. Und das wird auch in Zukunft so sein. In der Schweiz sind wir schliesslich Mitte 06 mit vier Sendern gestartet. Inzwischen sinds fast sechzig. Das geht halt so wie bei Vielem: Man hat den Eindruck, es bewegt sich nicht viel, und dann plötzlich gibts einen rechten Ruck.

I’m also a guy from Belgium. I’m very happy with Zattoo and i’ve already recommended the program to my friends. But I want to know if it’s possible to ad more channels in Belgium. At this moment, their are only 2 channels in Dutch for Belgium (vt4 and Vijftv) but the to main channels: the public broadcast één and the commercial channel VTM aren’t avaible. Would it be so difficult to have a public, dutch channel in Belgium? Keep up the good work and thank you for Zattoo.

Wie sollen die denn für jede einzelne Sendung verhandeln? Wenn begonnen wird zu streamen, weiß doch keiner, welche Sendungen in ein paar Wochen und Monaten gezeigt werden.
Ich denke, die großen deutschen Sender wollen ihr Programm selbst anbieten, oder eben gar niemand. Es sei denn, es wird gelöhnt (wie bei TriplePlay). Dann ist aber die Qualität anders als bei Zattoo.

Die Sender sind nicht unbedingt daran interessiert, ihr Programm selbst anzubieten, da dies erhebliche Mehrkosten darstellen würde! Sie müssten nämlich bei Entgeldstruktur die Übertragungsqualität garantieren. Und das ist teuer. Zattoo nutzt ja einen Weg, der die Sender kein Geld kostet und ist sozusagen als Nebeneinkunftsquelle durchaus interessant. Die Verhandlungen werden vermutlich eher dahin geführt, die Preisvorstellungen der Sender mit realistischen Niveaus von Zattoo anzugleichen. Denn die Qualität ist aktuell ja reduziert und die Zuschauerzahl ist auch begrenzter, als z.B. bei Sat.

I think that the following channel would be great on Zattoo too (nice play on words ain’t it ?) : Europe by Satellite (EbS). I have seen the recent argument you’ve had with one user (Nicholas Newman) who seemed to know his stuff about European legislation. I believe that we should have easy access to this channel directly from Zattoo. Plus, this channel would be of great interest to anybody in the Union (though it remains really specific about the fact that it exclusively deals with politics, so it might not seem interesting to everyone …) What do you think ?

I really don’t understand why there are so many issues related with the presence of Italian channels in France. I get that there are copyright problems with the contents, but aren’t France and Italy part of the CE and geographically neighbours? What I understand even less is that more and more internet providers include Italian channels in their free packs (internet+tv) and Free.fr (Rai1+2+3) and LeNeuf.fr (Rai1+2+Canale 5) are good examples of it. So, why isn’t it possible that with your free software you cannot include channels that are already accessible in France? I mean, what’s the use of having local channels that are only accessible in France and are not even there whenever you go somewhere else? I only say this because I’m a great fan of your software and I’ve been waiting for it for ages in order to have Italian Tv in France…

@MarcoG: Good questions, but all I can tell you is that we’re diligently acquiring the rights to retransmit the channels that we carry, and we’re on it almost 24/7 in most European countries and overseas as well. We can’t answer for other providers. You have to see the channels that Zattoo offers now as a start, not the end. In Switzerland we started with four channels in June 2006. Now there are 60. Patience, my friend.

I’ve seen your two freshly added channels, namely Bloomberg and DW-TV, which is nice for the investor and German-lover in some of us…
By the way, we’ve been out of Euronews for a couple of days now, with a message in German being displayed instead of video… The thing reads “Der Dienst sender nicht oder ist vers…”. Which is a pity, since it has caused me to watch Euronews on livestation (please never tell that to anyone ok? it was just testing …).
And incidentally, we’re still waiting for France Ô for instance that really would complete the line-up in France.
